Data is critical to the success of digital transformation, so it should come as no surprise that information management is an essential element in its advancement to specific change goals along the journey.

Digital transformation demands data. Digital management helps to connect up data silos, opening up data across organizations, improving efficiencies and creating a competitive advantage. The result is an agile, smart and connected organization designed for smart decision making.

There are two key trends in information technology that organizations need to look at carefully to optimize performance in the digital economy – namely artificial intelligence and associated content analytics and collaboration. Both go hand in hand.

Artificial intelligence will undoubtedly shape content management of the future, opening the doors to deep dive content analytics technologies.

Organizations are already looking to take advantage of the benefits these technologies bring. Advanced AI technologies such as machine learning, virtual assistants and speech recognition are on target to go main stream over the next five years, according to analyst firm Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Artificial Intelligence.

AI will fundamentally change how organizations manage content.  With increasing amounts of data and the arrival of the internet of things, AI will be the only way insight can be harvested. The big challenge now is how to manage these data volumes and prepare it for content analytics and cognitive services. AI requires a large diet of quality data to work to its maximum potential. By creating cross company knowledge sharing the amount of data required can be generated – knowledge can be shared where needed and the data is still securely stored at its origin.  Where there are organized repositories of preferably structured data, AI will work efficiently.  Problems creep in when there are mess repositories and isolated silos. So, AI and content analytics will very much depend on organization’s getting their data repositories in order.

In the best case scenarios, organizations will have intelligent information management solutions in place: a content services platform (CSP) with integrated cognitive services.
