5 Top AI Trends

5 Top AI Trends

Here are 5 significant artificial intelligence trends to look forward to that will affect myriad industries on an international scale led by giant tech companies that are now investing huge sums in artificial intelligence research.

Last year, implementations of AI rose significantly in so many platforms, tools and applications around the world, impacting healthcare, education and other industries as more and more people are opting for e-solutions based on AI and Machine Learning. Then there's the automotive industry with self-driving cars, the agricultural sector opting for intelligent robots to tackle the sowing as well as insecticide spraying on crops; the list goes on.

As tech industry giants, including Google, Facebook and Amazon, invest billions now in AI and Machine Learning research, let's explore how 2019 is unfolding on this front.

Major chip manufacturers including Intel, Nvidia, AMD and ARM aim to produce AI-powered chips to speed up the operations of applications that run on AI. An AI application relies on the processors as it needs significant speed. It's quite difficult for the CPU systems to complement such applications when the processes involve facial recognition and object identification which require complex mathematical computations in parallel. Performance advancements in AI chips will be a great solution to this problem as they will be designed to complement applications involving NLP, speech recognition, computer vision, etc.

Internet of Things has disrupted many industries in the recent past in a good way, and it's merging with AI to increase its useful impact in our lives. The industrial IoT is first in line to get integrated with AI for problem detection in machinery, early detection of issues, and the analyses of situations in order to predict better steps in the future. Deep neural networks will play a key role in improving industrial operations. Similarly, autonomous driving will witness a huge usage of AI and will solve daily problems like traffic congestion throughout the world.

Automated Machine Learning will also be a known term in the coming months as it's going to revolutionize business analytics. Complex problems will be solved without training the machines manually through the typical process of training models. Instead of getting stuck in the process of training, analysts will be able to focus on core issues.

Although facial recognition had its challenges last year due to the breach of personal data by Facebook where millions of people’s personal data was used to create political strategies without their consent, this is definitely on the rise. Facial recognition is an artificial intelligence application, and its readability and accuracy are greatly improving due to extensive research in the area. This will help security agencies identify rogue elements in society as well as help businesses provide more personalized services to their customers.

It's a big question being asked on every platform these days.. whether AI will take jobs away from people. The answer may be “yes” as well as “no.” It's quite clear that the use of AI will increase automation in a number of industries globally. For example, Amazon has already started using robots in its operations as they work faster and with more accuracy. With increased automation, processes won’t involve so much human error and this will improve the services provided by so many different companies. Yet more research, by humans, is needed. So, the rise of AI is definitely increasing automation in the processes of our daily lives, but this requires more researchers to provide solutions to the resulting problems that arise. So, while AI may eat into the low-skilled job market, the demand for higher-skilled jobs (for designing AI) will increase.

In sum, the use of AI continues to increase dramatically with its integration with IoT and machine learning, and as the tech giants boost AI research efforts.
