Data Privacy Is Now An Enterprise IT Tool

Enterprise technology is fragmented. We usually take this foundational truth in the sense of a negative, largely because fragmentation makes applications, data and the network layers in between them tougher to manage. When data resides in multiple locations, on multiple cloud platforms, across multiple geographies and inside multiple brands of database (Oracle, SAP, IBM and the tier-#2 layer of brands etc.), then we typically talk about it being fragmented, disconnected and spread across disparate nodes or datacenters.

Technology is also fragmented in a more positive sense.

When an established technology brand specializes ardently on one particular group of IT services, then it will typically drive enough of its own Intellectual Property (IP) and know-how into that zone to mean that it can never be a Jack-of-all-trades. This second foundational truth means that IT will always need to partner with other specialists who offer complementary (sometimes supplementary) services that bolster, augment or extend its core IT stack.

Fragmented may be too strong a term, but these are service specialisms that quite definitely sit apart from a large scale IT vendor’s core IT stack that it will look to bring in externally with partners.

A perfect example of this quite symbiotic relationship is Salesforce. Known for its cloud-first platform of services stemming from an initial specialism in Customer Relationship Management (CRM), the Salesforce swing and swagger now extends across a whole range of data-centric business functions.

But for all its data-centricity, Salesforce is a firm focused on customer delivery, service efficiency and product innovation that manifests itself in real world customer use cases. With that broad focus in mind (and with all the showboating that goes on with this firm), Salesforce rarely waves its flag and gets out the party hats to tell us about its data privacy prowess.

Part of the reason for this is that Salesforce partners-up for its data privacy function. Odaseva (pronounced oh-da-sehva) is a San Francisco-based firm that describes itself as the leading data platform company for Salesforce. Now augmenting the amount of data tooling DNA that it pumps into the Salesforce bloodstream, Odaseva is this year making its no-code data privacy solution generally available.

The very logically named indeed Odaseva Enterprise Privacy Solution is said to allow large multinational organizations to comply with the growing number of data privacy regulations impacting their Salesforce data.

These product updates are happening at a time when global privacy is heating up. As we have seen in Europe, the US and further afield, national and international data privacy regulations are increasing around the world right now.
